During my reserach into art & design I have looked at many fine art projects that are also intended to engage the public and convey messages of some kind. I came up with the thought that in some way products could be seen in this way too. These items ultimately end up in the hands of the user who often admires or observes every little detail – a kind of almost ultimate connection into someones life. Texture, colour weight, words, shape are all felt in some way.
Of course there are issues of descrimination wherby someone may not be able to afford a product, but I would also be thinking along the lines of free useful things. Artists often offer free postcards etc at exhibitions – but what about free items to ‘engage a person’ given away anywhere, anytime?
Definately one I will be looking deeper into, researching and seeing where it leads.

I’ve been thinking - in many years will the Apple I revoloution, Podcasting, Facebook, YouTube be referenced in design history like Modern movemnts like the Bauhaus era are today? Its an interesting time now with social connections linking heaviliy with design & technology which is at the core of all the great movments in art & design. If anyone knows any good publications that cover this angle or have thoughts themselves to share, please drop me an e-mail chris@inkubate.co.uk

Thankyou for visiting Inkubate – I have added this blog as an area where I can track any ideas or thoughts I’m having online. It may also give a little more context to the work seen on the main site. Also please check out the photo gallery that will in future contain some sketch book images which in some ways are the more ‘alive’ parts of creative work.
Take care!
